Hat size guide
To find your hat size, run a soft tape measure around your head about one centimetre above the ears and across the middle of the forehead, keeping it level and snug. Read it in centimetres. That measurement is your size. Most adults measure between 55 and 58 cm. US hat size 7 is 56 cm. Measure over the hair you intend to wear on the day, because a different style can change the fitting by a full centimetre.

UK sizes run one eighth smaller than US sizes for the same head. European sizing is simply the head measurement in centimetres, which is why we work in centimetres in the atelier.
What US hat size 7 means
US hat size 7 is a head circumference of 22 inches, which is 56 cm. American hat sizes are the circumference in inches divided by pi, rounded to the nearest eighth, which is why they look like odd fractions. A US 7 is a UK 6 7/8 and a European 56.
How to measure properly
Use a soft tailor's tape rather than a builder's tape. Stand in front of a mirror. Bring the tape around the widest part of the head, about a centimetre above the ears and across the middle of the forehead, and keep it level all the way round. It should be snug without pressing in. Take the reading in centimetres.
Measure twice. If the two readings differ, take the larger one.
If you fall between two sizes
Take the larger size. A hat that is fractionally large can be adjusted with a sizing ribbon inside the band. A hat that is too small cannot be made bigger without reblocking it.
Does hair change the size?
Yes, and more than people expect. A chignon, a blow dry with volume or a hair-up style can add a centimetre or more. Measure over the hair you plan to wear on the day, and tell us the style when you order so the base can be positioned for it.
Do headpieces and fascinators need a size?
No. Pieces on a headband or a comb are made to suit all head sizes, so no measurement is needed. Only hats with a crown that sits on the head need a fitting.
What if none of the standard sizes fit?
Every hat here is blocked by hand, so a piece can be made to your own measurement rather than to a standard size. There is no surcharge for this. Send your measurement with the order, or ask for a fitting at the London atelier or on a video call.
Ordering from the United States
Give us either the centimetre measurement or your usual US hat size and we will convert it. We ship worldwide insured. If you are between sizes, the larger one is the safer choice.
If you are unsure about anything here, write to us with your measurement and the occasion, and you will get a straight answer. Every piece can be blocked to your own head.
