The process
From the first sketch to the final stitch.
The conversation
It begins with a conversation, in the atelier or by video from anywhere in the world. We talk through the occasion, the outfit, the colours and the feeling you want.
The sketch
Monika draws your piece by hand and proposes the materials. Nothing is made until the drawing is right and you have approved it, with a fixed quote agreed in advance.
The making
Hand-blocked and finished by Monika alone. Your head is measured in the atelier, or guided at home with a tape we post you, and the shape is refined against it as the piece grows.
The delivery
The last pass by hand, then it travels to you in the Maria Monica London hatbox, anywhere in the world, in good time for the day.
Made with you, wherever you are
You do not need to be in London.
Many of the women Monika dresses she has never met in person. We hold the consultation, the design presentation and the fitting by video call, in your own time zone.
American and international clients commission this way every season. Colours matched on screen, your head measured at home with a tape we post you, the order placed and paid online and the finished piece delivered worldwide with insured shipping, quoted inside your fixed price.

There is a more private way to commission.
For royal and state occasions, the Royal Enclosure at Ascot, weddings and galas, Monika attends you in person. She gives the long fittings the occasion deserves and coordinates the hat with your gown, your stylist and your team.
