Ordering and payment
Order ready to wear pieces directly through the website at maria-monica-london.myshopify.com, where each design is added to your bag and checked out in the usual way. For bespoke or made to order pieces, email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com to begin your commission.
Checkout on the website accepts all major cards and the standard digital wallets through our secure Shopify payment system. Bespoke commissions are invoiced directly and settled by card or bank transfer.
Bespoke and made to order commissions are confirmed with a deposit at the start, which secures your place in the atelier schedule and covers materials. The balance is settled before your finished piece leaves the studio in its hatbox.
With seventeen designs live and every piece made in a single edition, availability moves quickly. Email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com to ask us to hold a design while you decide.
Every piece is packed and shipped in an insured hatbox, which presents beautifully as a gift with no extra wrapping required. Tell us at checkout or by email if you would like it sent directly to the recipient.
Prices shown online are being finalised as the collection settles, so figures may be updated before you order. Email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com for a confirmed price on any piece you are considering.
Delivery and duties
Standard UK delivery is complimentary on every order. Express UK delivery is available for 6.99 if you need your piece sooner.
Delivery to the United States is 23.99 and to the European Union is 14.99. Orders to the rest of the world are quoted individually, so email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com for your country.
Every piece travels in a hatbox, which protects the shape and the trims in transit. All shipments are fully insured.
Orders shipped outside the UK may be subject to customs duties and local taxes set by the destination country, and these are the responsibility of the recipient. We recommend checking your local import thresholds before you order.
Yes, every order to every destination is fully insured in its hatbox for the whole journey. If a parcel is lost or damaged in transit, contact us at mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com and we will resolve it.
Ready to wear pieces are dispatched promptly once your order is confirmed, with standard UK delivery complimentary and express available for 6.99. International timings depend on the destination and any customs handling.
Sizing and fit
Hat fit is measured around the head, so run a soft tape around your forehead just above the ears and note the figure in centimetres. Email that measurement to mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com and we will confirm the right size for the design you want.
Millinery is worn close to the head, so a piece that is slightly generous can be adjusted more comfortably than one that is tight. Send us your measurement and we will advise which way to go for the specific style.
Headbands, fascinators and hair accessories sit on a band or comb rather than around the crown, so they suit most wearers without a head measurement. For a veiled piece or a structured base you may wish to share your measurement so we can check the balance.
Many ready to wear pieces can be fitted more precisely in the atelier once you have received them. Email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com to arrange an adjustment and we will advise what is possible for your design.
A hat should sit level and secure without pressing, resting so the brim frames the face and the piece stays put through a long event. Monika sets the angle and balance during a fitting so the hat feels effortless to wear all day.
Bespoke and commissions
Made to order and bespoke commissions take six to twelve weeks from confirmation. Begin as early as you can before your event so there is time for fittings and finishing.
Yes, any colour can be matched from a photograph or a fabric swatch. Send an image or a piece of the fabric to mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com and Monika will match it in the atelier.
Every piece Monika makes is one of one, created as a single edition for the wearer. A bespoke commission is built to your outfit, your colouring and your event.
The house makes occasion hats to order across pillboxes, fedoras, boaters, headbands, fascinators, veiled pieces and hair accessories. Tell us what your occasion calls for and Monika will design to it.
Email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com with your event, your outfit and your timing, and Monika will guide the design, colour and materials from there. The commission is then confirmed with a deposit that secures your place in the schedule.
Bespoke pieces are made for you alone and are non-returnable. Fittings during the six to twelve week process are there to make sure the finished piece is exactly right before it reaches you.
More questions
The private service and appointments
The private service is an in-person appointment with Monika, where she advises on shape, colour and proportion for your occasion and outfit. It is the way to commission bespoke and to be fitted by the milliner herself.
Email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com to request an appointment, telling us your event and the dates that suit you. We will confirm a time for your private consultation with Monika.
Monika discusses your outfit and occasion, shows shapes and materials, takes your measurement and sets the angle and balance of the piece on you. It is where a bespoke commission is shaped and where ready to wear pieces are fitted precisely.
Bring your outfit or a photograph and a swatch of the fabric, along with any shoes or accessories that set the proportion. This lets Monika match colour exactly and judge the scale of the piece against the whole look.
No, ready to wear pieces can be ordered directly through the website without an appointment. The private service is there when you want bespoke, expert advice or a fitting in person.
Royal Ascot and dress codes
The Royal Enclosure requires a hat or a headpiece with a solid base of at least 10cm in diameter. Fascinators are not permitted in the Royal Enclosure.
A fascinator is not permitted in the Royal Enclosure, which requires a solid base of at least 10cm in diameter. A fascinator may suit other enclosures, so check the dress code for the area of your ticket.
Pillboxes, boaters, wider brimmed hats and headpieces built on a base of at least 10cm all satisfy the Royal Enclosure requirement. If you are unsure whether a design qualifies, email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com and we will confirm the base measurement.
Yes, Monika makes bespoke pieces built to the Royal Enclosure requirement and matched to your outfit. Allow six to twelve weeks for a commission, so begin well before race week.
Because bespoke takes six to twelve weeks, start your commission at least three months before Ascot to allow for fittings and finishing. Ready to wear pieces can be ordered closer to the date while stock lasts.
For the Royal Enclosure the headpiece itself must sit on a solid base of at least 10cm in diameter, whatever its style. A headband or veiled design can be built to meet this, so tell us it is for the Royal Enclosure when you commission.
Care and repairs
Keep your piece in its hatbox, away from direct sunlight and damp, so the shape and trims hold. The insured hatbox your order arrives in is made for exactly this.
Lift and hold the hat by the brim edge or the base rather than the crown, so you do not distort the block. Rest it crown down or on its side in the hatbox when not worn.
Let the piece dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators and direct heat that can warp the material. Reshape gently by hand as it dries, and contact us if you are unsure about a particular material.
Yes, Monika can repair, reshape and refresh pieces made by the house. Email mariamonicamilliner@gmail.com describing what has happened and we will advise on the work and the timing.
Many pieces can be re-trimmed or recoloured in the atelier to suit a new outfit or event. Send us photographs of the piece and the look you have in mind and Monika will tell you what is possible.
